It was the moment that put the exclamation point on North Melbourne’s first win since Round 5, and now Kieran Harper’s amazing solo effort has been recognised with a nomination for the Origin Goal of the Year.

With 12 minutes remaining in the final quarter, Harper and Billy Longer fought for a ball deep in the Kangaroos’ forward pocket. Harper knocked the ball clear, only to be confronted by the Lions’ Josh Drummond in a follow-up contest. With true grit and determination, he won the ball again, got to his feet and from the most acute of angles slotted an impossible goal.

Harper has been somewhat of a human highlight-reel since his debut in round six of 2011, and his latest play is no exception.

The goal has already attracted over 3,000 views on YouTube, though it's still a long way away from eclipsing the 52,000-plus hits for Jamie Macmillan’s incredible goal at training.

While Harper is sure to receive plenty of votes, Drew Petrie’s high fly in the last quarter was overlooked for a nomination.
