North Melbourne’s approach to hiring a new senior coach will be slow and steady according to club president Dr Sonja Hood, who says the club will "make the right decision rather than the fast decision".

As part of the club’s board meeting on Wednesday night Geoff Walsh reported his findings from his three weeks at the club as a consultant, with the mutual parting of ways with former coach David Noble a decision made outside of the report.

Hood says while the club has started the process of finding a new senior coach it’s still early days.

"We talked about [a new coach] at the board meeting on Wednesday night and we’re working through the process of making sure we’ve got the right people around the table," Hood told SEN.

"Our previous two coaches haven’t lasted terribly long so it’s incumbent on us to be really clear on what’s happened there and be really clear on what we want moving forward. Do we have a number on the shortlist? I’m probably not going to share that. Am I going to tell you who’s on the panel? We haven’t completely decided that yet.

"We’ll be looking on our panel for people who’ve done this sort of thing before and people who are in the industry now. Again, we’ll look at making sure we’ve got the composition of that right."

While the appointment of a new senior coach is certainly in the near future for the Kangaroos, interim boss Leigh Adams currently holds the reins of the young and exciting side.

North won Adams’ first game in charge, overcoming a spirited Richmond side in the final minutes courtesy of Cam Zurhaar’s sixth goal of the match.

Hood says the whole club can take massive confidence out of the win.

"It felt fantastic. For starters, the week before we’d given up a lead and not come back. We’d had the disappointment the week before," she said.

"I reacquainted myself with a whole set of feelings during that game that I’d forgot existed, like footy anxiety and joy and despair and all those emotions you have during a game that frankly you don’t get when that game’s decided at half-time.

"Standing in the race with those players who’ve really worked so hard and had a really tough year, they’re under a lot of pressure too, it was just joyful."
