The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos will be without Ellie Gavalas for an extended period, while Amy Smith is set to miss at least a week with concussion.

Coming off a one-goal and 10-disposal game against the Demons in Round 2, Gavalas suffered a hamstring strain during a training session last Thursday evening.

"Due to the location of the strain, it will take a bit longer to rehab with a view to return towards the back end of the season," said AFLW Performance Manager Alex Veitch.

The 26-year-old is set to be out for approximately six weeks.

Smith, who suffered a concussion in the second quarter of North's clash with Adelaide, will miss out on playing Geelong in Round 4.

"She has entered the concussion protocol which should see her available for Round 5 provided she progresses well," said Veitch.
