The North Melbourne Football Club is mourning the loss of former captain John Brady, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning at the age of 90.

Shinboner No.433, Brady was one of the finest key position players of his time, excelling in the usually difficult position of centre half-forward.

Brady joined North Melbourne's VFL side from Benalla in 1952 and played 118 games and kicked 44 goals in his time at the club between 1952 and 1959.

Not only did he wear the royal blue and white stripes in his playing career, but he also donned the ‘Big V’ jumper representing Victoria in 1954, 1957 and 1959.

The great team man was awarded the Syd Barker Medal in 1954 for his outstanding season and captained the side from 1957 until his VFL retirement two seasons later.

On a heart-warming day in March this year, Brady visited Arden Street to celebrate his 90th birthday with the club.

The Kangaroos will wear black armbands in honour of Brady in Saturday's AFLW clash against the Brisbane Lions at Arden Street Oval.
