Having missed out back in the 2020 season due to the COVID, the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos will finally have the opportunity to compete in a preliminary final.

Since entering the competition in 2019, the Roos have always found themselves as one of the more efficient and put-together sides of the league, but reaching the season's final game has so far eluded them.

That could change this season though, as Darren Crocker's Season 7 side seems to have a different feeling about it compared to previous years, which ruck and forward Emma King thinks is the case.

"I think it's come down to having more mental belief (this season)," King told RSN.

"We've really just bought into the program, which we have every year, but I think this year the group is a bit different.

"That belief to go all the way probably stuck early and I think we're just building confidence every single week from the performances we've been able to put in."

It's Melbourne that sits as the next roadblock for North Melbourne after triumphing in its weather-affected semi-final against Collingwood.

The Dees managed to claim the victory by just two points in Round 2 at the MCG when the two sides last met, but King says if the Roos can consistently execute North's brand footy this time around then they'll be in a favourable position to clinch a Grand Final berth.

"We just need to play our way for longer, is the cliche sentence which Crock (senior coach Darren Crocker) would say," she said.

"When we play our best footy it's us getting that ball going forward as much as possible and locking it in (down forward) as much as possible.

"When you've got the likes of 'Tahls' (Tahlia Randall) clunking almost everything that comes her way and the our smalls just crumbing off the back, it puts us in a very good position."

King also believes that the Roos are a better team now compared to what they were back in early September.

"I think we are (a better team)," she stated.

"We've critiqued our ball movement since those early games."

"Every week I feel we are genuinely are building something, we just really need to put a four-quarter effort in against Melbourne because we know it's going to go down to the wire."
