North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos co-vice-captain Nicole Bresnehan is tracking well post-ankle surgery.

The defender is now two weeks removed from suffering a left ankle syndesmosis injury, and is eyeing a return to the side for finals.

"'Flash' is walking pain-free out of her CAM (controlled ankle motion) boot and her clinical testing has improved to the point she will likely return to some running towards the end of this week," senior physiotherapist Billy Williams told NMFC Media.

"At this early stage of her recovery, she's ticking all the boxes and is on track to be available at the start of the AFLW finals."

Ruck Liz McGrath has progressed through recovery protocols and will return to training with the group on their return from Perth. If she can complete a full session on Friday, she will be cleared for play this weekend.

Young defender Cassidy Mailer is back running and is progressing positively from her thigh injury.

"She has been able to complete football specific content in the rehab group including changing direction, kicking and tackling, so will grade into the main training group this week," Williams said.

"We expect her to build out her fitness and training loads over the next 2-3 weeks before being eligible for selection."
