Luke McDonald and Jy Simpkin will lead North Melbourne as co-captains for a second season after being backed in by their teammates and coaches again.

The pair made history when they became the club’s first-ever co-captains ahead of the 2023 season.

They will be supported by Nick Larkey, who has been elevated to vice-captain following a career-best 2023 and two seasons as a leader.

Aidan Corr, Bailey Scott and Harry Sheezel round out the six-man leadership group for 2024.

Corr was previously part of the side’s leadership group in 2022, while young guns Scott and Sheezel have been voted in for the first time.

Scott has played 78 games since arriving at Arden Street as a father-son selection in the 2018 AFL Draft, and has earned two top-three placings in the club’s Syd Barker Medal voting in that time.

Sheezel, who will be the youngest member at 19, joins after a remarkable debut campaign in 2023 that saw him play every possible game and claim the Syd Barker Medal.

"It’s a changing of the guard in some respects," North Melbourne general manager of football Todd Viney said.

"Jy and Luke remain co-captains, but we now have Nick as vice-captain, plus three new leaders.

"Earning the right to be named vice-captain is a great reward for Nick and a reflection of the respect he’s won from his peers.

"It’s also really pleasing that Harry and Bailey were recognised by their teammates and are ready to step up at this early stage of their careers.

"Aidan Corr is another great story. He was voted in a couple of years back, lost his spot, and then came back into the group this year.

"We’ve lost a lot of experience – it’s essential that this group is supported by their teammates in the 22–26-year-old bracket if we are to take the next step in our development."
