North Melbourne’s VFL side has come away from Moorabbin with a 55-point win over Sandringham in Sunday's practice match.

The Roos overcame an early three-goal deficit before kicking away to win 13.10 (88) to 5.3 (33).

A seven-goal-to-one second-quarter blitz was the catalyst for Tom Lynch’s side, spearheaded by Eddie Ford who kicked three of his four goals in the term.

It was the forward’s first competitive minutes of the pre-season, as was the case for senior defensive duo Luke McDonald and Aidan Corr.

The pair were strong behind the ball, with Corr imposing himself in the air and AFL co-captain McDonald showing composure exiting the backline.

They were ably supported by Miller Bergman and Charlie Comben, with the latter coming across as vocal and confident in his new role as a key back. He picked off plenty of opposition surges forward and hauled in a huge hanger in the fourth quarter to stir the crowd.

Following Sandringham's hot start, Hugh Greenwood - who played deep forward for a majority of the contest - and Jack Watkins converted early in the second to get the ball rolling for the Roos.

Robert Hansen jnr caused havoc inside 50 with his neat footwork and smarts as North Melbourne asserted itself, while Liam Shiels - flanked by Cooper Lord and young ruck Taylor Goad - was the key driver in midfield.

Hansen jnr worked brilliantly with Finnbar Maley to set up Ford for one of his three second-quarter goals, before SSP signing Tyler Sellers capped off the emphatic period with a major on the half-time siren.

Both Sellers and Maley were dangerous forward targets for the Roos inside 50, often clunking grabs close to goal.

Lord continued to work hard in the guts after the main break and tore away from a centre bounce in the fourth quarter to set up fellow VFL-listed player Charlie Harrop, who converted his set shot.

Sam Lowson joined the scoring action and sent through one of his two goals from inside the centre square. He also kicked his second from distance, assisted by Ford who picked off a Zebras switch at the home side's half-backline.

Blake Drury and Curtis Taylor didn't have trouble finding the ball across the four quarters, with Taylor kicking the game's final goal, while Brayden George's and Louis Butler's drive out of defence was another positive sign for North Melbourne.

The Roos are scheduled to face the Bulldogs in another practice match next weekend on March 9 which will be a double-header with the VFLW team.
