North Melbourne director Anthony Stevens has resigned from his position on the club Board.

The two-time premiership player and dual Syd Barker medallist joined the Board in August, 2021, and relinquished his position at Wednesday night’s monthly Board meeting.

Stevens, who now lives and works in Geelong, will spend time working on building his state-wide real estate business.

North Melbourne president Dr Sonja Hood thanked the 292-game player and former captain for adding an even greater legacy to his long history of service to North Melbourne.

“’Stevo’ answered the call to come onto the Board back in 2021 and he helped provide stability, calmness and wise counsel as we navigated some turbulent waters,” Dr Hood said.

“He’s brought great knowledge and skills to the club but he flagged with us some time ago that he may need to step back to concentrate on growing his own business interests.

“There aren’t too many people who can match Stevo’s contribution to North Melbourne, which started as a player in the late 1980s to now, so we owe him a huge debt of gratitude.”

Stevens said he is excited about what awaits the club in the coming seasons but it was time for him to focus on his own business affairs.

“It’s naturally sad to be leaving at this really exciting time for the club but my personal work demands have increased and I need to concentrate on that,” he said.

“The club is in a really good place and I look forward to sharing in the success our members and supporters deserve after a lean few years.

“To Sonja, Jen Watt, Alastair Clarkson, Darren Crocker and Todd Viney, I wish you all the best in the coming seasons.”

The Board will decide on a replacement in due course.
