North Melbourne has appointed long-time strength & conditioning coach and dietician, Jona Segal, as its new High Performance Manager.

Segal's experience and expertise within the sports science industry is significant, having commenced his tenure at Arden Street in 2000.

"Jona is widely regarded as one of the best in the business," North GM of Football Cameron Joyce said.

"He is an extremely knowledgable, loyal and hard working professional that adds tremendous value and ability to our club. This promotion is a credit to his unparalleled work ethic and dedication."

Joyce recently stated player availability would be a big focus for the Kangaroos, after injuries derailed the seasons of several key players during the 2017 home and away fixture.

"The upside for us can't be underestimated if we can keep our list healthy and fit next year," Joyce added.

Jack Ziebell, Mason Wood, Sam Wright, Ben Jacobs, Marley Williams, Kayne Turner, Majak Daw, Ed Vickers Willis, Jy Simpkin, Paul Ahern and Jarrad Waite were among those most affected by injury last year.

Segal will take over the strength and conditioning program from Steve Saunders, working closely with North's medical department effective immediately.
