North Melbourne Werribee has locked away the VFLW minor premiership with a 64-point win over Casey Demons on Sunday morning.

With eight players managed ahead of the finals, the Kangaroos showed off their depth as they ran away with the 3.2 (20) to 12.12 (84) win at Casey Fields.

The victory was set up by another dominant first-half performance from the visitors, who owned the inside 50 count 26-8, kicking away with five goals to none before the main break.

This sees the Roos’ impressive defensive record stretch to only five first-half goals conceded since round six.

The Demons fought back valiantly with three goals after half-time, but the Kangaroos responded with a relentless five-goal final term to see them home comfortably.

Alana Barba led the charge in the middle as she repeatedly got first hands on the footy. The premiership midfielder was instrumental in the Roos’ clearance superiority (42-20), finishing with 30 disposals and nine clearances, to go with a goal from a long-range snap in the final term.

Reese Sutton also worked perfectly in tandem with Barba as she saw more time on-ball, picking up 23 disposals, eight clearances and a game-high 12 tackles.

Dojiok sinks Demons

Nyakoat Dojiok dipped deep into her bag of tricks once again, adding another four goals to her tally for the season.

The superstar forward ended any hopes of a Casey comeback, converting a spinning snap shortly after three-quarter-time, before using her blistering pace to slot her fourth and put the icing on the cake.

Third time lucky

Third time was the charm for Georgia Nicholas as she slotted her first early in the second quarter.

After her first effort sailed wide and her second clipped the post, the livewire found herself in the right place at the right time with the ball falling right into her lap, followed by a crafty low dribble kick underneath the defender’s arms to open her account.

Tupper return

Aisling Tupper was a welcome addition to the forward line in her return game from an ACL injury.

The crafty forward provided the spark for her side early, setting up the opener with a sharp, looping handball to Di Cosmo in space, her first of six score involvements for the match.

What the coach said

VFLW Coach Brett Gourley on the win: "We made a few changes this week, but we were really confident with the players coming in. The changes that we had, we were able to replace them with quality players and the way in which they held themselves today and were able to perform their roles was excellent.

"I thought we dominated around stoppage and around clearance today and the stats reflected that. I was really pleased with the inside mids group.

"We were really pleased that we were able to try a few different things and still come away with a fantastic result."

On Sutton: "I think she is a midfielder at heart and hasn’t been able to crack into the midfield, just because we’ve got such a talented group this year.

"The way that Reese was able to step up this week was brilliant. She played her role extremely well and was able to impact the contest.”

On Tupper:  "We are incredibly proud of ‘Tups’. She has had such a long road coming back from an ACL. She has obviously gone through that 12-month recovery process, but she has ticked every box along the way.

"She’s got incredible speed, is super ferocious and tackles really well, so she gave us some really good front-half support and pressure down there today. I was rapt with her performance."

North Melbourne Werribee will finalise its preparation for finals as it takes on Sandringham at Trevor Barker Beach Oval in the final game of the home and away season. The opening bounce on Sunday, August 3 is scheduled for 9.45am AEST.
