North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos defender Eilish Sheerin is set to miss the rest of the home and away season due to a hamstring injury.

The No.4, who has been outstanding for the Kangaroos since arriving as an off-season trade recruit, sustained the injury in the pre-game warm-up before Sunday’s win over Sydney in Launceston.

"While disappointing for Eilish, she has responded well in her acute recovery and has started her strength rehab," North Melbourne senior AFLW physiotherapist Billy Williams said.

"We expect her to miss the final four games of our home and away schedule, with a return likely coming in the first week of finals."

In more positive news for the Kangaroos, forward Alice O'Loughlin is closing on a return after specialist reviews cleared her of a liver injury.

North Melbourne AFLW doctor Victoria Norbury said O'Loughlin had recovered “very well” following the injury sustained during Round 6's win over Carlton.

"After further testing and specialist reviews, Alice was able to return to training at the back end of last week," she said.

"She will still need to get through this week's main training session and will be a test for our Round 9 game."

Winger Taylah Gatt has edged another week closer to a return from an ankle injury and now sits 3-4 weeks away from a comeback.

"Taylah has been progressing well with an introduction to running over the last week," Williams said.

"Her strength and range-of-motion program has been effective, and she'll begin more plyometrics with a focus on getting power and propulsion back into her ankle and calf.

"This week will see her introduce some change of direction drills and running at higher speeds."
