North Melbourne defensive duo Eliza Shannon and Tessa Boyd have put pen to paper on one-year extensions, remaining at Arden Street until at least the end of the 2026 season.

Shannon cemented her place as a core member of the Kangaroos' defensive unit in 2025, playing all 15 games of the season, including North Melbourne’s AFLW Grand Final triumph over the Brisbane Lions.

The 26-year-old has played 31 games since arriving at the club in 2023, following a season at Hawthorn, where she played six matches in 2022 (S7).

Boyd signed on as a replacement player ahead of the 2025 season and made her debut in the Kangaroos’ Round 2 win over Port Adelaide, going on to play 10 games during the season.

The 28-year-old was elevated from North Melbourne’s VFLW program after joining following the 2024 season.

General manager of women's football Erin Lorenzini said both players have shown significant growth over the past 12 months.

“We’re so pleased Eliza has signed on for next season after she showed such great improvement throughout 2025. Her attitude has been first-class, and to see her play every game this year is a testament to her dedication," Lorenzini said.

“Tessa came into our program just before pre-season and was able to make an immediate impact. To play as consistently as she did is a credit both to our program and Tessa’s work ethic.

“We’re extremely confident both Eliza and Tessa will continue to show great progress both on and off-field as we head into next season.”

The announcement builds on the news last week that veteran pair Emma Kearney and Kate Shierlaw will play on next year, each signing one-year deals.
