With star ruckman Tristan Xerri sidelined, North Melbourne will need to look to its tall stocks ahead of the Good Friday SuperClash against Carlton.
As reported on Monday, Xerri will miss the next three games, having been suspended for serious misconduct.
Veteran forward Jack Darling booted three goals in the VFL side's opening game of the season and could find himself straight back in the senior side to help support Callum Coleman-Jones in filling the Xerri void.
"'JD' (Darling) competed really well and showed his class … he gave us a really good presence up front," VFL coach Adam Marcon said post-game.
Wil Dawson was another strong performer in the reserves' clash with Essendon at the NEC Hangar, delivering a composed performance in defence while also pinch-hitting in the ruck.
He led the Roos' tackle count for the day with a game-high seven to throw his name into the mix for a potential season debut.
Zac Fisher was lively in the defeat to the Bombers, kicking the opening goal of the game and winning 24 possessions alternating between wing and half-forward.
Recruit Charlie Spargo hit the scoreboard and applied plenty of forward pressure to raise his hand for a club debut.
The experienced Bailey Scott (23 disposals) was solid playing on the wing and will be considered at the selection table.
Defenders Cooper Harvey (22 disposals, eight intercepts) and Riley Hardeman (16 disposals, six intercepts) also pushed their cases for call-ups to the AFL side for Friday's game at Marvel Stadium.
Robert Hansen jnr (22 disposals, five rebounds) provided plenty of overlap run and pace off half-back as he continues to adapt to the role.
Small forwards Jacob Konstanty and Zac Banch were emergencies for the AFL game against Essendon and are chances of being brought in for the SuperClash.
