North Melbourne has appointed Alex McKenzie as its new VFLW senior coach.

McKenzie joins the Kangaroos with a wealth of state-league experience, having spent the past four seasons as part of the VFLW coaching panel at the Box Hill Hawks, including as senior assistant coach in 2023 and 2025.

McKenzie’s experience also extends to representative football, having recently served on the coaching panel for the VFLW v SANFLW State League Rep Game.

Beyond football, McKenzie brings a strong background in business, combining professional leadership skills with sports development to guide programs holistically.

"We are thrilled to welcome Alex to Arden Street to lead our VFLW program," North Melbourne general manager of women’s football Erin Lorenzini said.

"Alex is a calm, steady head and a proven leader who brings a fantastic vision for our football club. What stood out most during the process was Alex's ability to guide a football program holistically and build the deep, meaningful relationships required to get the best out of our players.

"With a strong professional background and extensive VFLW experience, Alex is perfectly placed to help grow this team."

McKenzie will transition into the program this week, which will also see the new senior coach serve as an AFLW player performance coach.
