Premiership defender Nicole Bresnehan is expected to miss the next 5-6 weeks after sustaining a calf strain.

Scans confirmed the injury following a training session over the weekend in which the defender reported tightness in her lower leg.

It’s a cruel blow for Bresnehan, who was closing in on a return from the ACL injury she suffered in September last year.

“She will need a period of time off legs to allow the tissue to heal, before we ramp up her running and return to training,” senior physiotherapist Billy Williams said.

Taylah Gatt (groin) returned to team training on Tuesday and is symptom-free ahead of a potential return in 1-2 weeks, Williams said.

“She will need to bank a few sessions of full training before we consider her for selection,” he said.

The Kangaroos return to their Arden St home on Sunday for the annual AFLW SuperClash against Carlton, celebrating the heroes of the Royal Children's Hospital.
