After a disappointing start to the AFL season and some key players on the comeback trail, changes could be on the cards for the Round 4 clash with Adelaide.

The Roos played their opening VFL game of the season on Saturday night and there were some promising performances from those pushing for selection.

North Media takes a look at those in the mix for a Round 4 berth.

Defenders

Tom Murphy has been a strong performer in pre-season, and he was a stand-out in the VFL, with 21 disposals and 12 marks.

Returning defender Sam Wright was in impressive form in the backline, collecting 14 disposals and pulling down 11 marks.

Midfielders

Jed Anderson was tenacious in his return to footy after an injury kept him out of the opening few rounds of the AFL, laying eight tackles. The number three returned to the AFL in 2018 after just one VFL practice game, showing he doesn’t need much time to get back up to speed.

Paul Ahern has been in every extended squad so far this season, and is banging on the door for senior selection. The midfielder was the game day emergency against the Hawks.

Forwards

Reigning Frosty Miller medalist Nick Larkey began the VFL season where he left off, kicking three goals. With the Roos having their struggles in attack, could the 20-year-old be called upon as another dangerous target?

Nathan Hrovat was in sensational form for the Roos’ VFL side too, collecting 27 disposals and kicking a goal, to put him well and truly in the frame for senior selection.

Cam Zurhaar is another small forward to have pressed his claims for selection, having 19 disposals in the VFL.

Curtis Taylor missed the VFL through illness and will likely need another week at least to prove himself for selection.
