Another young draftee has further invested in North Melbourne with the club’s most recent debutant Will Walker agreeing to a one-year extension.

“It’s awesome to be locked in for another year and be here until the end of 2020,” Walker told North Media.

“I probably found out about three weeks ago; the club approached my manager and he told me and I was stoked and the first thing I said was, “yep sign me up”.

“I like being around the boys and I’m super excited and I can’t wait to get stuck in for another two years.”

The young midfielder admits it’s been a big few weeks after his impressive first showing against the Eagles at Blundstone Arena. On debut, he had 11 disposals, 4 marks and 4 tackles.

“I found out I was going to play last Thursday at main skills and all the boys got around me so that was pretty cool and then you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face for the rest of training,” Walker said.

“It was pretty awesome having 10,000 fans there, people yelling your name was pretty surreal and pretty crazy.”

Drafted with pick 23 last year after turning his back on soccer, Walker said the culture of the club makes it a special place to be.

“I just love the feeling around the club,” he added.

“It’s really good to have a good bond and a good connection with the boys that you know are in the same position and they’ll help you out through the rest of your career.

“It’s a really family-based club and all the boys are really welcoming and making the time here really enjoyable and they’ve also made the first nine months, for not only myself but the other first year kids, really really enjoyable and we’re all stoked to be here.”

While looking to get more games under his belt, the 19-year-old plans to also complete his studies as soon as possible.

“I’ll continue studying my commerce degree,” he added.

“Mum won’t let me drop that, obviously you’ve got to have something after footy to look forward to unless you’re Boomer and play 400 games, even then you’ve still got to do something with the next 40 years of your life … but footy is my main priority at the moment.”
