In a new feature on kangaroos.com.au, we'll be following each of North Melbourne's new additions on the training track in the lead-up to the NAB Cup.

Ben McKinley carved out a career as a dangerous forward for the West Coast Eagles, but when he fell out of favour with the club, North Melbourne swung into action and moved to secure him with a swift trade in late 2010.

North traded pick 86 to the Eagles for McKinley who had requested to be sent back home to Victoria.

In 2008, McKinley led West Coast’s goal kicking and is now determined to increase his running ability.

Since arriving at Arden Street, he has used his experience and strong body to make an immediate impression. But the 23 year-old is the first to point out that he’s no walk-up start come round one. With similar types Ben Warren and Aaron Edwards vying for spots in the forward line, someone will have to do something pretty special in order to be the chosen one.

Our cameras were focused on McKinley during full-ground drills and goal-kicking practice at Arden Street.

Check out the video above for training vision, comments from assistant coach Brett Allison and the final word from McKinley.
