The North Melbourne players returned to Arden Street on Monday morning, training for the first time since March.

Speaking to The Herald Sun, Rhyce Shaw said he couldn't wait to get going again.

"I honestly believe we’ve done a fair bit of work to get ourselves to a point where we feel we’re ready," he said, ahead of a return to games next month.

Split into smaller groups of eight, the players' schedules will be divided across the day, with a strong focus on health and safety measures.

Upon arriving at the club, the Roos' stars were temperature tested.

You couldn't keep the smile off the face of Ben Brown, with the big number 50 one of the first to get strapped up.

The forwards were out on the track first, as preparations for footy ramped up.

The different groups continued to rotate through training, with the aim to get the work done quickly and efficiently.

As the midfielders headed out, one coach couldn't hide his excitement.

While a star onballer was doing his best to keep his emotions in check ... but did we catch a wry smile?

Social distancing rules were front of mind at all times. Patience key, as players simply appreciated the chance to get back to training.

With day one done, we're edging closer and closer to footy's return.

Full-contact training will begin from next week, with a return-to-play date set at June 11.
