After a tough couple of weeks it was a relieving feeling to have a win on the weekend. I thought we played some really good footy in the first half and now it’s just about finding that consistency for four quarters.
The Hawks are a quality side and we’ll need to be at our best on game-day. We put a lot of work into our preparation, but it’s also important to take our mind off things and relax a little on our day off from the club.
With that in mind I was delighted to accept Ben Cunnington’s offer to go fishing during the week. The boys were having bets that I wouldn’t catch a single fish, but as it turns out we couldn’t catch a tail-wind. Cunners was unable to get the boat started because it had a flat battery and we were wondering if we’d ever leave the pier. We ended up having to get a guy to help us start the boat, but things only got worse from there. After finding a good spot and catching a couple of salmon (which I predict were about two metres long), Benny tried to start the boat, only for us to be stuck with no power again.
I reckon we could have made a case for a call-up to the Australian Olympic rowing team as we grabbed a paddle each and made our way back to shore. After powering up again with a portable generator, Captain Cunners told me he was taking a ‘shortcut’ to one of his favourite fishing spots. We pulled up and while I was ready to reel in some fish Rex Hunt would have been proud of, we spotted another boat in the distance we thought was trying to steal a piece of the action. Then, it pulled up alongside us… it was the Police!
It turns out Ben’s ‘shortcut’ had accidentally led us over a mussel farm. The boat was searched and Cunners was shattered to receive a $150 fine for not having a torch on his boat. I was just happy not to be arrested! It was a pretty scary moment.
We were left a little embarrassed that day, and the same could be said for a few of our best pranksters at the club who were caught red-handed by Drew Petrie trying to ‘glad-wrap’ his house. The front light went off outside Drewy’s place and he went to investigate. Walking down his driveway, he spotted the culprits and gave chase! Apparently Lachie Hansen was parked right next door and Drew ran straight past him, but he didn’t miss ‘Flashy’ Campbell and ‘Patch’ Adams, the hooded assassins. Drewy reckons he chased them for ages, but they managed to get away when Lachie arrived with the escape vehicle.
There’s plenty of pranks being played among the boys at the moment and Ryan Bastinac being signed up to the RSVP dating website was one of the best. Basti, or ‘Ryan Allen’ as he was called on the site was apparently seeking a date for his 21st birthday.

Moving forward though and I need to mention something the boys found while waiting for our flight today. There’s plenty of time to sit back and relax in an airport and a few of the boys couldn’t help but notice our Weights Coach turned model Dan Meehan strutting his stuff in the Virgin 'Voyeur' Magazine.

It’s great to be in Tassie again and we are excited to see plenty of North supporters in the crowd to get behind us. It’s a shame our Media and Communications Manager won’t be there. Heath, my one-time writing companion for this blog has gone missing in action over the past few weeks. The boys think there might be bells after a recent trip to Paris with his girlfriend, but I’ll have to keep you posted on that one.
I hope you’ll all be cheering loud and proud from wherever you may be watching tomorrow. Go Roos!
