NORTH Melbourne midfielder Andrew Swallow has been unsuccessful in his appeal of a $2400 fine at the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night.

Swallow was charged by the match review panel for making negligent contact with umpire Scott McLaren during the first quarter of Saturday's win over West Coast at Etihad Stadium.

It was a second offence for Swallow, who could have had the penalty reduced to $1800 with an early plea.

The 22-year-old finished the match with 34 possessions as one of the Kangaroos' best players.
