"I'm very happy. Being a one club player is one of my goals I set out to achieve and let's face it, I wasn't going to go anywhere else," Harvey told kangaroos.com.au in an exclusive video interview.
"Just to walk into the coaches office and find out if he still needs me and wants me to play was probably the nod I needed and as soon as that happened I was very, very keen to go again."
With 344 games under his belt and another impressive season in 2012, Harvey encapsulates everything about the club's spirit.
"Something I hold pretty close to me, one of the best individual awards I've won is life membership at the North Melbourne footy club. I couldn't see myself in any other football club jumper.
"The playing group are great and we're improving under a bunch of great coaches. It's a bright future."
A win against Greater Western Sydney this weekend will take the Kangaroos to their first finals campaign in four years and Harvey is excited to see how far they can go.
"It's been a while since we've played finals. You want to be playing football in September, that's what we all play for to win a grand final and you can't win the GF if you're not playing finals.
