Petrie to miss opening round
NORTH Melbourne big man Drew Petrie will miss the Kangaroos' round-one clash with West Coast after accepting a one-game suspension for rough conduct against Gee
The 28-year-old was penalised by the match review panel on Monday for a second-half incident that left the veteran Cat momentarily dazed during his side's win at Skilled Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Petrie was on track to play in the home-and-away season's opener after a horror 2010 in which he broke a foot on three separate occasions and missed all but two games.
If the Kangaroos had survived beyond round one of the NAB Cup, Petrie could have served his suspension in the pre-season competition.
However after their straight sets exit to the Cats and Western Bulldogs, he will now have to sit out the Roos' trip to Perth for the March 27 twilight match at Patersons Stadium and start his season six days later against Collingwood at Etihad Stadium.
Brisbane Lions defender Ashley McGrath has also accepted a $900 fine pulling the hair of St Kilda's Tom Simpkin.
The tribunal will not sit on Tuesday night after both players chose not to challenge their charges.
Drew Petrie is a $209,700 forward/ruckman in this year's Toyota AFL Dream Team competition
