North Melbourne legend Glenn Archer has taken time out of his busy schedule to assist the Surf Coast Veterans Centre raise funds to support local ex-service people and war widows.

Archer will host a special fundraiser at the Torquay Bowls Club on Monday, 24 January, 2011.

The “Afternoon with Glenn Archer and Friends” will feature an opportunity for guests to play some lawn bowls, indulge in a special barbecue and listen to stories from the lighter side of sport.

All monies raised will be used to maintain the Veterans Centre’s motor vehicle which provides much needed transport for ex-service people and war widows.

“Our trained volunteers help many veterans or their dependants with pension matters, disability allowances, services and welfare issues,” event organiser Val Forbes said.

“The Surf Coast Veterans Centre not only assists World War 2 veterans and their families but also helps veterans from all other conflicts including Vietnam and various peacekeeping operations.

“Our vehicle has become a key part of our operations but we need to raise funds to ensure we can keep it on the road all year round.

“This fundraiser at the Torquay Bowls Club is a once-only opportunity to raise funds to offset running costs of the vehicle.”

The fundraiser will run from 4.00pm until 7.00pm.

Tickets are $30 for adults but children under 12 are admitted free (Drinks available at bar prices).

The tickets can be purchased from Val Forbes on 0409 965 842 or Keith Forbes on 5261 2378.
