With a bye this week, many could be excused for thinking there’d be no football at Aegis Park, however, that’s not the case.

Majak Daw and Scott Thompson will put their coaching skills to the test on Thursday night as they prepare North Melbourne’s Unity Cup squad for it’s grand finale event.

It’s the second year North has been involved with the Unity Cup; an Australian Federal Police initiative to strengthen relationships between the Muslim, Jewish and Indigenous communities and the wider community with a vision to create harmony and social cohesion.

The first qualifying round has already been held with the grand final taking place at Windy Hill on Sunday, April 10.

Partnering clubs involved in the exciting initiative include Essendon and the Western Bulldogs who will be fierce competition for the Kangaroos’ squad.

The diverse community teams will come together with the help of a number of community partners including City West Water, Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Victoria Police.

North Melbourne is partnering with the Flemington Eritrean community team and the Islamic Council of Victoria team.

The community teams experienced a unique inside look into the life of an AFL footballer with Kangaroos Vice-captain Drew Petrie hosting the teams on March 31st at Aegis Park for a Q&A evening.
