After breakfast each morning in Utah, the players will have a short kicking session on the Grand Lawn at the Montage Resort in the Deer Valley.

With rolling mountains on one side and the towering Montage Resort on the other, there's no better way to start the day.

While the emphasis is on warming up the joints and getting the body moving, there may also be an added bonus for kicking practice given the tricky terrain.

One miskick or awry pass is costly - just ask director of sports science and rehabilitation Peter Mulkearns.

When Aaron Black attempted to nail Ben Mabon with a short stab pass, he missed by only a matter of inches, but the result saw the Sherrin tumble 200 metres over the edge of the landscaped area and down a steep, imposing decline.

Always the team player, Mulkearns was quick to put his hand up and indicate he'd retrieve the ball for Black - but he may have regretted the snap decision.

What followed was a long walk to the bottom of the hill and then an arduous climb back to the top.

At altitude, even a small staircase can pose quite a challenge but although Mulkearns was out of breath, he appeared victorious with ball in hand.

Of course Black has denied he kicked the ball to begin with.
