Former North Melbourne chief executive and long-time football administrator Greg Miller has launched a passionate defence of North’s involvement in Good Friday football.

Miller was one of the first people to push for Good Friday games in the early 90’s and says it’s ridiculous that no other marquee fixture has ever been called into question.

“Carlton has been losing (the round 1 season-opener) to Richmond for 10 years now,” he told The Herald Sun.

“Were we saying the same thing when Melbourne kept losing Queen’s Birthday games against Collingwood?

“You can’t just pick and choose. Some people say things for the sake of it.”

Miller says regardless of form, North deserves Good Friday football, after lobbying the AFL for years for the opportunity to play on such an important day.

He says in time, the Roos will rise up the ladder again.

“The cycle changes for every club, and it will for the Kangaroos,” he said.

“Every team needs signature games. You can’t take this game off North Melbourne, as they fought so hard for it.”
