Try a Trade at Marvel Stadium
During the Kangaroos' Round 20 clash against the Cats, Freestyle hosted its first AFL gameday activation at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night, in partnership with Empowered Women in Trade.
The activation brought the world of trades to life for young fans and families. From paint-by-numbers with Dulux to PPE dress-ups and a handball race with Apprenticeship Support Australia, the space was designed to inspire curiosity, start conversations, and showcase the exciting career opportunities available in trade industries.
Trades & Tech Fit Expo 2025
Freestyle returned for its third year at the Trades & Tech Fit Expo. Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event highlighted opportunities in sectors where women and non-binary people have traditionally been underrepresented.
Over 4000 students had the chance to engage our Freestyle partners, gaining insight into apprenticeships and employment options across a range of fields. This year, an additional segment of the expo was open to women and non-binary adults.
Attendees also met North Melbourne AFLW players Jasmine Garner, Jenna Bruton, and Libby Birch. A key moment of the day was Kicking Goals in Male-Dominated Industries — an on-stage interview with three-time AFLW premiership player Libby Birch, who shared her experiences breaking barriers and building confidence in spaces often dominated by men.
Networking Event
Freestyle, in partnership with Apprenticeships Support Australia (ASA), hosted a networking event at The Huddle aimed at encouraging women and non-binary people to explore careers in trades through apprenticeships. The event featured guest speaker Libby Birch, three-time AFLW premiership player, who shared her experiences and perspectives on career pathways. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and speak with representatives from Freestyle partners and ASA to learn more about apprenticeship options and opportunities in the trades sector.
