Lexi Hamilton will strengthen the Roos' key position options in season 2022

The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have bolstered their list on the eve of the 2022 AFLW season by signing versatile tall Lexi Hamilton.

Hamilton joins the Roos as an injury replacement signing, filling the gap left in the club's playing list by the injured Elisha King.

A key position player and ruck, Hamilton represented North Melbourne in the VFLW during 2021.

Finishing fourth the club best & fairest count, Hamilton kicked six goals across 12 games and enjoyed a standout performance in round 12, collecting 24 disposals, six tackles and 32 hit-outs.

At 180cm, Hamilton shouldered the majority of the team’s ruck duties across the VFLW season and flourished in the role.

The 21-year-old is well equipped for the AFLW environment, having spent the 2020 season with the Gold Coast Suns where she played one game.

“We wanted to add another flexible, competitive tall to our squad, and Lexi showed us she is just that across the 2021 VFLW season,” AFLW Football Performance and Talent Manager Rhys Harwood said.

“Lexi is a real competitor, in the air and with her follow up, and plays with an edge to her game. Her ability to compete both pre and post clearance was a highlight, and she was also able to create a strong reference point when she played ahead of the ball.

“We are confident Lexi will create further flexibility and depth amongst our key position and ruck mix. The fact Lexi comes in with a solid understanding of our club, playing group and system is an added bonus.

“She is really hungry to make the most of the opportunity and we look forward to welcoming her into the program.”
