A run of defeats can hurt the morale of the playing group. It's happened before and it will certainly happen again in the cut-throat world of the AFL. According to Curtis Taylor though, the mood within the four walls of Arden Street is still high.

Since its strong opening round performance against Hawthorn and Round 2 victory against West Coast, the Kangaroos have struggled against quality opposition and have lost three of its last four games by 10 goals or more.

Taylor, who has been one of North's most improved players this campaign, says the group is as close as it has ever been.

"The form doesn't show it but we're enjoying our time here at the club … I think it's exciting," Taylor told North Media.

"Us young guys are full of energy, we're bouncing around and we're really looking to get better.

"Inside the four walls we're going to work, we're trying different things and we're working on our skills. It's exciting and the energy we're bringing is good."

Taylor has increased his time playing higher up the ground this season. Spending the bulk of his time in the midfield or half-forward positions, he's also floating into the contest when the game has called for some added X-factor at the coalface.

While still only a young player himself, Taylor is setting career-best metrics in most per-game statistics so far this season. He's also on track for his best output in front of goal during his time at Arden Street.

He says clarity around his role and his game is largely to thank for his improvement.

"I think it's just [down to] clear focuses going into each week. Going into pre-season and speaking with the coaches in exit meetings we just had clear focuses in what we wanted to get out of my game," he said.

"We know what it looks like when it's going well so we just tried to pinpoint those few things.

"Towards the back end of last year I did experience a bit more wing stuff, but there's still a bit of high half-forward too … I've played a bit of inside [midfield] and pinch-hit there.

"I want to be able to put under my belt that I can play multiple positions."
