North Melbourne forward Paul Curtis will serve a three-match suspension after the AFL Tribunal upheld his ban for rough conduct on Tuesday night.

Curtis was charged with rough conduct for his tackle during the second quarter of Saturday's hard-fought loss to Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

The tackle resulted in a concussion for Power defender Josh Sinn, who was substituted after the incident.

The Match Review Officer graded the incident as careless conduct with high contact and severe impact.

At Tuesday night's Tribunal, the club argued Curtis's tackle did not constitute rough conduct.

The club further argued that Curtis attempted to reduce the force of the tackle to protect Sinn, and therefore if rough conduct was upheld, the incident should be graded as medium rather than severe impact, drawing a lesser suspension.

The Tribunal disagreed on both counts, deliberating for nearly half an hour before upholding the three-match ban.

Curtis will now be unavailable for selection for Thursday night's match against Essendon, plus matches against Brisbane and Richmond.

Meanwhile, Kangaroos captain Jy Simpkin had his charge of instigating a melee overturned following North Melbourne's successful appeal.

Simpkin had faced a fine if the charge had been upheld.
