Robbie Tarrant has spoken for the first time about the injury which will cost him the first few weeks of the 2014 season.

A tibial stress reaction interrupted the key forward last season and has returned.

However the forward is remaining positive.

“Things are progressing really well actually. I’m looking forward to getting into some running next week and progressing from there but still taking it pretty easy so it doesn’t flare up again.

“Because of last year’s incident we’re being pretty cautious and to be honest I probably could train but I’d rather set myself up for a good year and have no interruptions after missing a couple of weeks now.”

Tarrant has dealt with his fair share of injuries throughout his time at Arden Street and is no stranger to rehab programs.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise he is able to split the recovery into small parts.

“Early doors it’s pretty tough, but you just focus on the next stage. So it’s getting it right to be able to run. Then when running starts it’s about being back as quick as I possibly can.

“I’ve been through it before which is fortunate enough in this situation but it’s nothing you like to do too often.”

Tarrant played the last 10 games of 2013 after returning from a similar injury and he’s drawn on that experience to give him confidence.

“My fitness was pretty good before this and two weeks off (from running) is not too big a deal.

“I want to be back as soon as I can but it’s one of those things where it’s really just judged on the symptoms and if it takes a little bit longer, then it takes longer. If I can come back quicker than that will be great but I don’t want to come back and then miss more games down the track through rushing it.”
