Defender Eliza Shannon won't feature in North Melbourne's home-and-away season closer against Richmond on Saturday, after she suffered a concussion during the Round 11 win over Adelaide at North Hobart Oval.

The defender developed delayed concussion symptoms after receiving a head knock against the Crows, and was ruled out of the match at half-time.

Fellow defender Emma Kearney (hamstring) has taken another step forward as she targets a return during the Kangaroos' upcoming finals campaign.

“Emma had an excellent week of loading as she continues to progress through her rehab protocols,” senior physiotherapist Billy Williams said.

“She’ll look to take the next steps over this week as she continues in the rehab group.”

Premiership Roo Nicole Bresnehan made a successful return to competitive action on the weekend, featuring in an AFL-organised scrimmage match in Sydney.

It was an important milestone for the 29-year-old, marking the first time she has played in match conditions since her ACL injury in Round 1 last year.

Meanwhile, midfielder Mia King has been continuing her rehabilitation following her neck injury earlier this season.

“Mia has returned to running and strength training in the gym and will build out her conditioning in the rehab group over the next two months,” Williams said.
