Christmas has come a week early for North Melbourne skipper Brent Harvey with the arrival of the ultimate gift, his third child. Hudson Preston Harvey was born at 8.00am on Sunday weighing 7lbs 1oz and his doting dad couldn’t be more proud.

“Seven days before Christmas, he’s definitely the perfect gift. And good timing, we get to have him home for Christmas,” Harvey told kangaroos.com.au on Monday.

While it’s been a tiring time for his fiancée Shayne, Harvey says the family is delighted with how everything went.

“Shayne and Hudson are both doing really well. Shayne was only in labour for an hour. Her water broke at about 7.00am and she had the baby at 8.00am.

“She was a little bit out of it for three or four hours afterwards but now she’s 100 per cent…she’s up and about and ready to go.”

Harvey’s no stranger to the delivery room but this time around, he was taken out of his comfort zone.

“The doctor gave me an experience I’ll never forget by allowing me to help deliver the baby. It was amazing.”

The third addition to the Harvey family is lucky enough to have two older siblings ready to smother their little brother with love and affection.

“Cooper and Lacie are both really excited. Cooper did a fist-pump when he found out it was a boy. Lacie thinks he’s a little doll; she’s been cuddling him for the last 24 hours.

With five Syd Barker Medals and 323 games to his name, the sons of the North Melbourne champion cannot escape the ‘father son’ hype even at such a young age.

“Shayne joked that Hudson might turn out to be a ballerina. I don’t think he’s got any choice in liking football because his big brother is a footy nut. I imagine he’ll be out having a kick with Cooper seven days a week when he’s old enough.”

As for Hudson’s first Christmas present, Harvey thinks he knows what will be under the tree.

“It’s never too early for a North Melbourne guernsey. I’m sure he’ll get one.

“It will be a bit of a quieter Christmas this year. We’ll spend Christmas day with the family and then go away on Boxing Day up the Murray River which will be a nice experience for Hudson.”
