The final day of the AFL Gillette Trade and Free Agency Period should see quite a few last-minute deals done before the 2pm deadline.

There was a late flurry of trades on Thursday and the transactions are expected to keep going at a cracking pace from the get-go on Friday.

Will Varcoe go?
There is still some speculation Travis Varcoe is on the move. The early rumour was that he may find a way to the Sydney Swans in a trade that was to bring Nick Smith to the Cats. That possibility has since gone cold but there is still some chance the midfielder could be involved in a shock move from Geelong.

West heading north
The Brisbane Lions are set to offset the imminent departure of talented young ruckman Billy Longer, by signing Geelong premiership big man, Trent West. West appears likely to join the Lions from the Cats in exchange for one of the many picks the Queensland club has picked up throughout the AFL Gillette Trade and Free Agency Period. Longer is expected to sign with St Kilda.

Lions still in trouble
Jared Polec, Sam Docherty and Elliot Yeo all left the Brisbane Lions on Thursday, and another young Lion, Patrick Karnezis, is tipped to join Collingwood in a trade for Jackson Paine. Although North Melbourne has a higher draft pick to offer the Lions for the 20-year-old, Collingwood now seems in the box seat.

Staker to sign with Lions
In a disastrous Trade Period for the Brisbane Lions, there is finally some good news. Brent Staker is on the verge of signing a new two-year deal with the club, according to News Limited. Staker was talking to Carlton about a move to Melbourne but the Blues are said to have only offered him a one-year contract.

Gumby to Freo
After losing forward Stewart Crameri to the Bulldogs, it seems Essendon's forward stocks are about to diminish further. Scott Gumbleton's manager Paul Connors remains confident his client will move from Essendon to Fremantle but he might have to wait until the pre-season draft in late November.

Bulldogs bite again
Fresh from signing Crameri, the Western Bulldogs are poised to strike again and lure young Greater Western Sydney midfielder Sam Darley. AFL.com.au's Callum Twomey reports Darley could join the Bulldogs via a swap of late draft picks, or via the NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.

Didak's hope fading
Delisted Collingwood forward Alan Didak's chance of continuing his AFL playing career is in trouble, according to News Limited. Interest in the skilful goalsneak is "lukewarm at best". According to the report, Didak might have to wait until after the NAB AFL Draft as clubs finalise their lists, then hope he's seen as the right fit for a club looking for a capable veteran.
