With both shoulders heavily strapped, Robbie Tarrant walked out onto the Arden Street oval with an enormous amount of excitement and accomplishment.

Two shoulder reconstructions in as many years have seen the 19 year old spend a painful amount of time in the gym completing gruelling rehabilitation programs.

Finally, all the hard work paid off and he was cleared to play his first game on Saturday the 14th of March with North Ballarat in the VFL reserves, some 18 weeks after his last bout of surgery.

However, his dream of a picture perfect return to football was ruined by Melbourne’s unpredictable weather. The tall forward didn’t have too many opportunities to test his shoulders with over-head marking as heavy rain tumbled down throughout the match against Frankston.

Despite the horrific conditions, he still impressed onlookers with his attack on the ball and ability to read the play. On more than one occasion he drove his opponent into the muddy ground with a ferocious tackle. He also managed a goal and played more than 60 per cent of the game.

Tarrant will be forced to change sides this week when North Ballarat lines up against Werribee in another practice match. He’ll play for the Tigers and will continue to do so throughout the year.
