Harper stepping things up
Kieran Harper will be hoping to further increase his game-time on Sunday.
The silky-skilled forward played VFL reserves last week, but will take the step up to Werribee’s seniors for the clash against Bendigo.
After an injury-interrupted season in 2013, Harper underwent surgery to de-bride scar tissue in his ankle. He had an additional tidy-up in February before making his return in a VFL practice match a fortnight ago.
Hoping to gain confidence, Harper will enjoy the company of some familiar faces with team-mates Sam Wright and Kayne Turner among the Tigers’ small-forward options, while Mason Wood and Majak Daw will hold down the key-posts.
Werribee boasts somewhat of a star-studded lineup when it comes to its North contingent; Taylor Hine, Scott McMahon and Tim McGenniss are also among those named, while Michael Firrito’s inclusion will depend on whether he’s named in the final 22 for North.
At North Ballarat, Gerard Fitzgerald will be sweating on the availability of three key names named in the Kangaroos’ squad.
Robin Nahas, Joel Tippett and Liam Anthony were all in North’s 25 on Thursday night, with the trio all a chance to line up against Sydney.
North’s VFL affiliate will be in the spotlight on Saturday as the designated televised match on the ABC, allowing supporters the opportunity to catch some of the club’s best up-and-comers in action.
First-round draft pick Trent Dumont will take the field, while Mitch Wilkins and Max Warren will lead the way in the back half.
Eric Wallace will have another battle on in his hands against highly-rated Bombers’ ruckman Fraser Thurlow, after holding his own against Ben Hudson in the season-opener.
Through the middle, Anthony, if available, will be pivotal to the away team’s chances, particularly with his partner-in-crime Ben Jacobs named on the wing for North.
After keeping Quinten Lynch goalless, Tippett will also be important in defence, while Nahas was one of the Roosters’ best before hurting his knee in Round 1 and will be a handy inclusion if he doesn’t make the cut for the Kangaroos.
