2019 draftee Jack Mahony was the clear standout in Friday’s scratch match against the Western Bulldogs, according to Head of Development Gavin Brown.

“Jack was a standout,” Brown told North Media.

“His forward of the ball work and ability to turn up in the right spot was really impressive.

“His work-rate was really high. I think he kicked three goals, and lot of his stuff was really good. He caught all of the coaches’ attention.”

With the VFL season cancelled, scratch matches will be vital to give players who have missed out on senior selection vital game time, and exposure.

“It was really good and beneficial for us. We got a lot out of it. There were lots of learning opportunities for the guys,” Brown said.

“The game was played in good spirits, and the guys were all really keen.

“They really had a go and we got a lot of conditioning out of it.”

Among the other players to impress - Bailey Scott.

“Bailey came back after being dropped with a great attitude and performed well,” Brown said.

There was praise for the Roos’ defensive unit as well.

“Sam Durdin and Ben McKay were impressive defensively, matching up on talls and smalls.”

Ready to go after returning from suspension, Marley Williams will looking to push his case for selection, after a “solid” performance.

“There’s a number of guys that put their hand up for senior selection, which is exactly what we want,” Brown added.

Video clips from the match will be available shortly.
