With no VFL form to read into from the weekend, Brad Scott and his match committee will be relying on those pushing up and impressing on the track to stake a claim for selection.

Thursday’s training session will reveal plenty, and with the club boasting close to a full bill of health, the competition for spots is strong.

Aaron Black’s terrific return to the team will make things tougher for Robbie Tarrant, but his ability to play both forward and back puts an extra tick beside his name if Scott is looking to make changes.

Tarrant kicked four goals and pulled down 11 marks in his last match for Werribee, while Ayden Kennedy looms as a potential wildcard following a run of impressive games at centre half-back.

Liam Anthony’s best-on-ground effort at the Roosters a fortnight ago wasn’t enough to convince the selectors to recall him to the side, but as a proven ball-winner at AFL level he could easily take the step up. Likewise Matt Campbell who booted five goals last time against the Hawks.

Hamish McIntosh will be hoping to prove his fitness, though Todd Goldstein’s re-emergence in the ruck could make for plenty of thinking time for the selectors.

Lindsay Thomas should be available despite missing with soreness against the Lions, and Cameron Pedersen is another versatile option to be looked at. Ben Warren will be hoping for more opportunities having donned the royal blue and white for the first time this season against the Power.

If North is looking for run-and-carry, both Brad McKenzie and Aaron Mullett are perfectly suited for the role. McKenzie was omitted from the side last week following two weeks starting the game in the green vest.
