It's a sunny afternoon at Arden Street and North Melbourne is on the track for another skills session.

While the club's fitness staff take the warm-up, the coaches are still upstairs putting the final touches on the day's program. The pre-season is one of the most important times of year and not a minute is wasted.

Emerging from the club headquarters is assistant coach Darren Crocker, a man with some serious AFL experience.

Crocker has the whistle around his neck and will take charge of this session. His knowledge allowing senior coach Brad Scott the rare opportunity to become more of an observer.

Crocker is calm but demanding of the players. As midfield coach, he casts critical eye over the young and upcoming midfield. He allows the group to take control, but is quick to step in when things go awry.

When Crocker speaks, the players listen. It's clear to see how highly respected he is.
