The Werribee Tigers losing streak continued, going down to Coburg Tigers by 58-points at ABD Group Stadium on Sunday.

After another loss against the Northern Bullants last week, the Tigers were looking to return to the winner’s list against a Coburg side that was sitting top four and playing some strong football.

It was a much better first quarter start for the Tigers as they kicked three goals but still trailed by 19 points at half-time.

Skill errors and some costly turnovers were what cost the Tigers for the next three quarters, as Coburg played a better brand of attacking football.

Despite winning the overcall clearances 31 to 29, it was one of few positives during a torrid day for the Tigers.

Tigers coach Simon Atkins said it was a different story to last week and this time his charges were beaten by a better team.

“(It was) different things today, we were beaten by a better opposition today,” Atkins said.

“I don’t doubt the blokes effort, the tackling but at the end of the day we couldn’t win enough positive football.”

Coburg’s midfield dominated across the four quarters and it was what cost the Tigers dearly, according to Atkins.

“We couldn’t win the football off the opposition to give ourselves a chance to kick a winning score.”

Small forward Will Martiniello kicked three goals in a best on ground performance for the Tigers, with skipper Dominic Gleeson also contributing a valuable two goals.

Jay Schultz kicked seven goals in a dominant display as he made a meal of the Werribee defence, while skipper Nick Carnell and Shane Edwards booted two goals each.

Best on ground for Coburg was Schultz for his seven-goal, 18 disposal and 16 mark performance.

Andrew Banjanin (14 hit-outs) and Brant Dickson (8 hit-outs) competed well in the ruck against Richmond-listed player Tyrone Vickery. North Melbourne-listed Alan Obst did some pinch hitting ruck work around the ground, but left a lot of the work to Banjanin.

The Werribee Reserves were unable to back up their win over Northern Bullants last week, losing by 38 points 10.12.72 to 16.14.110

After an improved performance in their previous game, the Tigers played a sloppy and scrappy style of football that their opposition capitalised on.

Despite a number of impassioned pleas by coach Darren Findlay, the Tigers were not able to deliver on what Findlay asked for.

Not even a determined last quarter fight back could help to turn the tides for the Tigers, who now have their sights set on rebounding against Casey Scorpions.

Ben Fletcher capped off his return from injury with a best on ground performance in defence, while midfielder Travis Lunardi (29 disposals) impressed.

North Melbourne-listed forward Nathan O’Keefe and Jordan Robbins booted two majors each to be equal top scorers for the Tigers.

Next for the Tigers is an away clash with the Casey Scorpions on Saturday, with action getting underway at 1.10pm
