North Melbourne has had reason to smile so far this season with one of the shortest injury lists in the VFL, but on Saturday the Kangaroos will be missing both Hamish McIntosh and Sam Wright.

McIntosh had ambitions to play despite being carried from the ground after hurting his knee in the third quarter against the Bulldogs, but according to the coach he was always unlikely.

"We weren't taking any risks with him. Really we ruled him out early in the week to be honest," Brad Scott said on kangaroos.com.au's Interactive Team of the Week video.

"There's no structural damage to his knee, so we're hoping it's only the one week."

Wright was close to selection, but the club opted to err on the side of caution with the talented youngster due to soreness in his shoulder.

"(It was) touch and go. We could have given him to the last minute to get up and we thought he might be a chance to do that (play), but with a pretty full and healthy list we decided not to take the risk," Scott added.

"It certainly wasn't worth it. He had a pretty serious shoulder operation last year, so we wanted to make sure there was no chance of that happening again. It will be hopefully just the one week."
