A day after North football chief Donald McDonald confirmed Matthew Campbell and the club had agreed to part ways, the goal sneak has been linked with a possible move to Port Adelaide.

The Adelaide Advertiser’s Zac Milbank suggests Campbell could be traded to the Power in a deal that would see midfielder Ben Jacobs become a Kangaroo.

"Matty is looking for a new home," McDonald told North members during an open and honest live website chat on kangaroos.com.au.

"Both Matt and the club have agreed this is the best path forward.”

With David Rodan and Simon Phillips delisted last week, Port only has one small forward in Cameron Hitchcock. Danyle Pearce also left for Fremantle.

Campbell has played 82 AFL matches since being rookie-listed in 2006 and would add goal-scoring ability and leg speed.

With Campbell up for grabs, McDonald moved to quash talk of a move for former Port Magpie Levi Greenwood, saying the 23-year-old was a required player.

"He's the first to admit he had a disappointing season and will do everything to improve," McDonald said.

Meanwhile the futures of Aaron Edwards, Ben Warren and Ben McKinley will be known after the Trade period concludes.

“Azza has been informed, like a few other out of contract players, that we won't make a decision on their futures until after the Trade period. He understands that.”
