It was as good a combination you’ll see in any VFL midfield; Liam Anthony and Cruize Garlett running riot over the Northern Blues with North Ballarat on Sunday.

Both players are champing at the bit for AFL recalls and the bar has been significantly raised after the weekend’s efforts.

Garlett finished yet another strong game with 32 possessions at 94 per cent efficiency (14 contested), seven clearances, seven tackles and a goal while Anthony matched his effort with 35 disposals (14 contested), nine clearances and seven tackles of his own from just 72 per cent game-time.

The pair was unstoppable in the 26-point win at Eureka Stadium.

The Roosters also received outstanding contributions from North Melbourne’s other aligned players with Luke Delaney’s return to the VFL a highlight on the day. After being left out of the Kangaroos’ side which played Gold Coast on Saturday night, the backman was solid with 12 touches, nine spoils and four tackles.

Cam Richardson had 21 disposals, ten marks, two goals and five inside 50s and Aaron Edwards had to battle two opponents for much of the day on his way to kicking two goals to go with 15 touches.

With several Carlton players in the Blues’ line-up, North Ballarat’s win gives it a much needed boost for the second half of the year. The increased output from players such as Ben Mabon, who had 11 possessions, 22 hit-outs and a goal despite receiving a corky in the second quarter will only help the side climb the ladder from its current ninth position.

Brad McKenzie also suffered a corky in the second term and his 12 disposal effort was somewhat impacted with Matthew Campbell ending the day with 10 touches, four tackles and a goal.

Aaron Mullett had 13 disposals, Tom Curran collected seven and four tackles, Gavin Urquhart 13 and six inside 50s, while Cam Delaney rebounded well after a slow start with 13 possessions.

In the reserves, Max Warren had an encouraging day tallying 20 disposals (ten contested), eight tackles and a goal.
