Werribee has a tough task ahead if it’s to make the finals and it begins this week against Port Melbourne at Chirnside Park.

The Tigers are coming off a 59 point win against Collingwood and will need to win the vast majority of their remaining games to play finals, but with the goal kicking form of Nathan Thompson anything seems possible.

The former Kangaroo has booted 14 goals in his past two matches and could prove vital to the team's success in the second half of the season.

Werribee fans could get their first chance to see North Melbourne's fourth round pick Nathan O'Keefe at senior level after the18 year-old was named on an extended bench for Saturday's match.

It's a big call-up for the lightly framed forward who has played 11 games in the reserves resulting in 16 goals. In unfamiliar territory as a ruckmen against the top of the ladder Williamstown, O'Keefe racked up 20 possessions, seven marks and two goals.

The Tigers have named a host of North Melbourne stars but will be missing Daniel Harris, Ben Ross and Todd Goldstein after they were named to play Hawthorn in Launceston.

One player that is a certainty to line up is rookie Alan Obst. The versatile big man has been in fine form this season playing up forward, through the middle, down back and even in the ruck. 23 possessions and 11 marks in last week's match against Williamstown highlighting a strong season for the former Central District utility.

Sam Wright will be working hard to fight his way back into the North Melbourne team after a knee injury struck him down against St Kilda. The Roos' 2nd round pick in the 2008 Draft, Wright has played four games at AFL level so far this season, and showed plenty for Werribee last week to suggest a return is close.

In the reserves, Conor Meredith will look to help his team over the line against the eighth placed Port Melbourne. The Irishman returned from injury last week and had 14 possessions to continue his improvement with the Sherrin. The Tigers sit in ninth place, and like the seniors, need to win most of their games to see September action.
