Speaking from the heart, Arocca stood in front of 150 people to call on the community to work together to bring an end to the alarming rate of domestic violence against women.
“Violence against women is our society’s Achilles heel. North Melbourne Football Club is committed to raising awareness of this issue which affects so many women and their families,” Arocca said.
The Kangaroos have more White Ribbon ambassadors than any other club with the likes of Daniel Pratt, Ed Lower, Hamish McIntosh, Scott McMahon, Brady Rawlings, Andrew Swallow, Gavin Urquhart and Player Welfare Manager Neil Connell on the list.
“North Melbourne Football Club as a whole will continue to support and stand for women as we work together to end this insidious issue of violence against them,” Arocca added.
Domestic violence is the leading cause of death, disability and illness in women aged between 15 and 44 in Australia. Many incidents of domestic violence go unreported.
“Men who do not speak out to stop violence are just as guilty as those who perpetrate it,” Arocca also said.
