Rhyce Shaw has praised the commitment of Kyron Hayden, after the youngster’s courageous marking attempt against Richmond.

“The hairs on the back of your neck stand up when you see stuff like that,” Shaw said on Friday.

“Especially in a time we’re not going that great … the commitment that he showed on numerous occasions the other night (Saturday) was fantastic.”

Hayden has fully recovered from the heavy knock, and will take his place against Carlton.

“There is a safety aspect to it and the technique probably wasn’t 100 per cent right, and we’ll work through that with him, but his commitment to our team and his teammates was first class,” Shaw said.

The hard-working defender has played six games this season, after successfully completing a comeback from a ruptured achilles.

Already, he’s been handed stopping roles some of the league’s best small and medium-sized forwards.

“I’m really proud of the turnaround that Kyron’s made. He’s jumped up in our books and I couldn’t be happier with the way he’s going,” Shaw said.

“We’ve made sure this week that we’ve ticked all the boxes with him and made sure he’s absolutely clear, because he’s going to be an important part of what we do in the second half of this year.”
