North Melbourne recruit Lachie Hosie can’t wait to get started, as he embarks on his dream of being an AFL player.

“It feels so good, I’ve been dreaming of this my whole life,” Hosie told North Media.

It has been a whirlwind week for Hosie, having to relocate to Melbourne from Adelaide after being selected with pick 5 at the 2019 NAB Mid-Season Rookie Draft on Monday night.

“These last couple of days have been pretty hectic, but it’s all starting to sink in now,” Hosie said.

“I’ve had to leave some of my best mates behind at Glenelg without getting a proper chance to say goodbye, but they are all really happy for me fulfilling my ultimate dream of playing AFL footy.”

The leading goal kicker in the SANFL, Hosie attracted plenty of interest prior to the draft, and was understandably nervous in the lead-up.

“On Monday I worked with Dad, which was good to make my mind off things,” he said.

“But once it hit five o’clock and the draft got closer the nerves started to kick in.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity that North Melbourne has given me.”

As well as his obvious talent in front of goal, the 22-year-old is hoping to bring some exciting attributes to the North Melbourne forward line.

“Being able to launch at the ball and create a contest, and win it on the ground as well,” Hosie said of his strengths.

“I have really worked on being an all-round player. My marking power and speed off the mark can impact games too, so I’m hoping to bring that.”

The former Glenelg forward has looked to some fellow South Australian’s for guidance in his short time at the club so far.

“Sam Durdin went to school down the road from me, and Trent Dumont played for Norwood, so it’s been great to have that connection.

“They have been really good to me so far and showed me around the club.”
