Emerging midfield star Luke Davies-Uniacke has paid tribute to North Melbourne’s members after the club broke its membership record, despite sitting in 18th position on the ladder.

“It’s fantastic,” Davies-Uniacke told AFL360.

“It’s great that the members can see the belief we have in the way we’re playing.

“There’s a lot of young talent coming through being guided by the elder guys.”

North’s no.9 signed a contract extension at the start of 2021, and doesn’t see himself anywhere else but Arden St.

“I signed on to help this club with the young talent,” he said.

“I love this club … the club that chose me on draft night.”

Like many of North’s young guns, Davies-Uniacke, affectionately known as ‘LDU’, has taken his game to the next level in 2021, with his rate of improvement causing plenty of excitement. But he isn’t getting ahead of himself.

“I think it’s been a slow and steady process,” he said.

“I’ve been under the guidance of Ben Cunnington, Shaun Higgins and Benny Jacobs.

“Those three players have been my main sources of development, along with my coaches.

“I’m still earning my stripes, I guess.”

North’s form has improved dramatically after the bye, with a record of a win, a draw, and two losses to top-four teams from its four games since Round 13.

“We weren’t playing the footy we wanted to at the start of the season, but since the bye Nobes (David Noble) has really knuckled down with us on our roles and responsibilities on the field,” he said.

That improvement was evident on Sunday, with the Roos challenging the top-of-the-table Bulldogs all the way, a far cry from the 128-demolition on Good Friday.

“We looked at that game (Good Friday) and compared ourselves to where we felt we were after the bye,” Davies-Uniacke added.

“We didn’t get the result that we are after, but in the last quarter we had our chances.”
